Police officers stopping off for a break at McDonalds in Gillingham ended up catching a wanted man.

A 29-year-old man was arrested by police at the McDonalds in Gillingham at about 1.45am today on suspicion of driving while disqualified. He was also arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill during a domestic incident in December. Following the arrest the man was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre.

Sgt Chris Harris, from Norfolk Police, tweeted in the early hours of this morning: “Just heard my East @NSRoadsPolicing team had stopped at Gillingham @McDonaldsUK for a coffee and arrested a wanted person but also on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified. They have also seized the car #Sec165.”

In a separate incident at about 1.05am this morning, Sgt Harris’ team arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of drink driving at the McDonalds in Barrett Road, Tuckswood. The man failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.

Sgt Harris tweeted: “Just met my team in @McDsTuckswood for some refreshments ‘on the road’. As we’d finished the driver of the BMW pulled up, got out & staggered towards us. Provided a positive breathtest & has been arrested on suspicion of #DrinkDriving #Fatal4.”
