Norfolk police have confirmed they have received a complaint from Norwich City following alleged racist comments made towards defender Sebastien Bassong at the weekend.

Chief executive David McNally last night said the club would take action after comments were made on social networking website Twitter, in the wake of Bassong's last-gasp equaliser which grabbed the Canaries a 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday.

Today a police spokesman said the tweet in question had been flagged up to police and that officers were looking into the matter.

He said: 'An offensive tweet has been reported to Norfolk Constabulary by Norwich City Football Club and others and we are currently investigating.'
