Police are investigating a shooting incident on the Broads in which a private boat had its window shattered by a bullet.
The August 24 incident on the River Waveney at Somerleyton came to light during a Broads Authority navigation committee meeting on Thursday, September 7.
Committee member Linda Aspland said: 'I've been approached about the shooting on the Waveney and if you have any updates on what's happening about that I'd be glad to pass it on to the people that are worried.'
Her comments caught fellow navigation committee members, Broads Authority staff and others in attendance by surprise, as no-one was aware of it.
Mrs Aspland said there had been several reports of shots being fired near public moorings, resulting in one boat having a window shot out.
'There are reports the shooting has been going on several nights in the past few weeks,' she said.
'Lots of rounds have been fired off and people are quite bothered about it.'
Speaking after the meeting, Broads Authority chief executive John Packman said the incident had taken place at the Somerleyton 24-hour moorings.
He said: 'The Beccles yacht station reported the incident to Broads Control that shots were fired while the vessel was moored.'
Mr Packman said the matter was being investigated by Broads Beat.
PC Paul Bassham confirmed officers were investigating the shooting.
He said they were only recently made aware of the incident after it was initially reported to Suffolk police.
'We have started our investigations and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward,' he said.
He said there were fortunately no injuries while a window on the boat had been broken.
'It appears to have been a stray bullet and not aimed at the boat,' he added.
'We are following up on some leads as there have been reports of other shootings in that area in the evenings.'
He said Broads Beat was investigating the matter jointly with Suffolk police and anyone with information should phone 101. 'We'll also be at the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival this weekend if anyone would like to come speak to us in confidence.'
