A further 191 drivers have been caught flouting bus lane restrictions in Norwich on Wednesday morning during a two-hour policing operation.

After 174 drivers were caught ignoring no entry signs in Grove Road on the approach to Brazengate on February 10, even more were caught on the morning of Wednesday, Februrary 12.

Complaints from local residents and a collision last month involving a car and cyclist prompted the police action.

Checks were carried out from 7.30am. Those caught on camera will be written to with a notice of intended prosecution for contravening a no entry sign.

Roads policing officer PC Bob Warrent said: “It is very disappointing that after so many drivers were caught on Monday and a considerable amount of publicity, even more drivers ignored the restriction today.

“Using this route as a short-cut in the mornings is not acceptable - the restrictions are in place for a reason, are clearly signposted and thanks to traditional and social media are well known about, so there is no excuse for any driver.

“Motorists who flout the no entry signs are putting pedestrians and cyclists at risk and our patrols in this area will continue.”

Last month officers attended a collision in the area involving a car, which had contravened restrictions, and a cyclist.

It happened shortly after 9am and the cyclist suffered a fractured skull and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A bus lane operates in the area from Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 9.30am with only buses and taxis allowed to enter the road and onto Brazengate, near Sainsbury’s. The restrictions also apply to vehicles on Victoria Street, with no left turn onto Brazengate between those times.
