Police are urging people to secure their outbuildings after more burglaries of sheds and garages in the Lowestoft area.

Officers are urging anyone with a shed, garage or similar building in their garden or nearby to consider a number of measures such as using a good quality closed shackle padlock to secure doors, getting additional fittings to garage doors to make it more difficult for burglars to get in and utilising a relatively inexpensive shed alarm to alert you and make it uncomfortable for anyone trying to steal items.

It comes after another spate of incidents recently, including:

■ A Dewalt cordless drill and a selection of drill bits were stolen from an outhouse in the back garden of a home at Carlton Road between 5pm on Friday, January 31 and 8.30am on Saturday, February 1. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Lowestoft South Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101.

■ A unisex red and white coloured touring cycle, with cowhorn handlebars, was stolen from a garage at Rozlyne Close between 11am on Friday, January 31 and 1.30pm yesterday, Sunday, February 9. If you saw someone taking it or know who took it or where it is now please call PC 1853 Langham Fitt at Lowestoft on 101.

■ A stables building at Union Lane in Oulton was entered between 7.40pm on Friday, February 7 and 9.30am on Saturday, February 8. Lagging was damaged in what appears to have been an attempt to get into another room in the building. A search was made but it appears nothing was stolen.

Earlier in the week – overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, February 4-5 – a padlock had been broken off a door and police believe the incidents may be linked. Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area between these times or anyone with information about those responsible should call PC 382 Morse at Lowestoft on 101.

■ And two lock-up garages at Garden Villas, off Sussex Road, were broken into between 10pm on Thursday, February 6 and 10am on Friday, February 7. Nothing appears to have been stolen. Anyone with information regarding this incident should call PC 929 Durrant at Lowestoft police on 101.
