A man has been left in a critical condition after he was attacked in Gorleston early this morning.
The 45-year-old man was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge after receiving serious head injuries, consistent with an assault.
Police were called at around 2.30am to a property in Springfield Road following concerns for the safety of the man.
Officers found him inside with serious head injuries.
Police have sealed off the end of terrace property and remain at the scene this afternoon, as detectives carry out enquiries in the local area.
Forensics teams can be seen coming in and out of the house while an officer stands on the pavement guarding the cordon.
Extra police patrols will be carried out tonight to offer reassurance to residents.
Neighbours said they were surprised to wake up to the police activity as the road is normally quiet and 'tranquil'.
Sheila and David Griffith, who live next door to the property, said it had been home to an elderly couple who died some months ago, and since then it had been on the market for sale.
Mrs Griffith said: 'We didn't know (anything had happened) until I went to the hairdressers and we saw all the tape up and forensics van.'
