Chief Inspector Nathan Clarke said: 'This was a police intelligence-led operation designed to target those suspected of dealing Class A drugs in our community.

'This crackdown comes after our recent operation to target prolific burglars in the city. Information gathered during that lengthy investigation, which has since seen several convictions, showed the strong link between Class A drug usage and associated crime such as burglary.'

Police said highlights of the three days of action included:

• On Tuesday, two drugs warrants were carried out in Northumberland Street and Motum Road with a significant amount of drugs, believed to be Class A substances, along with drugs equipment and more than £10,000 of cash, seized. Four arrests were made.

• On Wednesday, following a drugs warrant at a property in King Street, a quantity of drugs, believed to be Class A substances, and drug paraphernalia were found. Two men and two women were arrested at the scene and have been release on conditional police bail pending further enquiries.

• Today, a drugs warrant was conducted on Victoria Street. Police carried out a thorough search where drug paraphernalia was seized.

Officers from Norwich Safer Neighbourhood Team joined forces with a Police Support Unit and Police Dog Unit to carry out high-visibility raids and targeted patrols.

Reassurance leaflets were distributed around the areas where the warrants took place to encourage people to report suspicious behaviour in their area.

Police urged local residents to report any further suspicious behaviour in their area. Call 101 and asked to speak to the Norwich Operational Partnership Team.

• Four people have been charged with conspiring to supply crack cocaine and conspiring to supply heroin. All appeared in court yesterday. Angela Clarke, 26, of Motum Road, Norwich; Marie Wickham, 30, of Elizabeth Avenue, Norwich, and Francis Wellers, 47 of Motum Road, Norwich, were remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Crown Court on April 9. Daniel Townsend, 20, of Ruskin Way, London, was released on conditional police bail to appear before Norwich Crown Court on April 9.
