Residents of a quiet Norfolk street have described their shock after a man was stabbed in the leg.

Police had cordoned off a home in Thorpe St Andrew this morning while they investigated a stabbing.

Officers were called to the house in Goodwood Close at 10.15pm last night after receiving a report that a man had been stabbed in the leg, just minutes after an attempted knife-point robbery at a nearby shop.

Goodwood Close resident Michelle Winstanley, 30, described seeing a wave of police activity shortly after 10pm.

A man who had been lying flat on his back in a neighbour's driveway was taken away in an ambulance, she added.

Around half a dozen squad cars attended, together with the police dog unit and a riot van.

She said after the injured man was taken away in an ambulance, a shirtless man who was wearing no shoes was taken into a police car and a third man was taken away in a riot van.

Miss Winstanley said detectives took photos of evidence on Monday night, a police sniffer dog searched the area and officers looked through bins.

She added: 'I couldn't see blood. It was so dark.

'It used to be really nice but there have been a lot of incidents here for the last four months.'

A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she had seen a man limping up the road chased by two men who were shouting 'there he is'.

'My partner said he heard someone running out over the stones,' she added. 'He saw someone run over the road limping and we thought 'right, let's ring the police'.'

Earlier, Woodside News on Salhouse Road was targeted when a man threatened a shop worker with a knife at around 10pm. After failing to steal anything, the man ran out of the shop and headed towards Sale Road.

Three men, two in their 20s and one in his late teens, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in police custody awaiting questioning.

Police were still at Goodwood Close this morning, with forensics teams working at the property.

A police spokesman said: 'Emergency services were called to a property on Goodwood Close at 10.15pm on Monday following a report received of a male with a single stab wound to the leg.

'He was taken to hospital for treatment and officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.'

Police are appealing for witnesses to the Woodside News robbery.
