Key figures from Norfolk's justice system joined members of the clergy for an annual civic service earlier today.

The Justice Service is a tradition dating back hundreds of years to welcome the city's visiting judge.

This morning, Mr Justice Saunders join a procession into Norwich Cathedral for the service, which is organised by the office of the High Sheriff of Norfolk Henry Cator.

Charles Holloway, Under Sheriff of Norfolk, said: 'It's a wonderful tradition. It goes way back to the middle ages when they started sending judges out on circuit to other towns and cities around the country in order to see that justice was being done properly.'

Attending the service were a number of key figures including Mr Cator, the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk Richard Jewson, Deputy Chief Constable Simon Bailey, of Norfolk Police, Norfolk coroner William Armstrong, the Lord Mayor of Norwich Ralph Gayton, Sheriff of Norwich John Jennings, and the Venerable Jan McFarlane, Archdeacon of Norwich.

One notable absence was the civic coach which made a welcome return to the justice service in Norwich last year.
