Officers were on patrol in Brettenham on Saturday at around 2.45am when a car drove off from them as they approached, according to a police spokesman.

The car, a Peugeot, fled towards East Harling, with the officers losing sight of it.

They later came across the car on the Brettenham Road, where it was on its roof in a ditch. The occupants of the vehicle had fled the scene.

Officers searched the vehicle, which was found to be empty.

Inquiries were carried out throughout Saturday, with officers searching for the occupants well into the afternoon.

The spokesman said: “Searches of the area were made and addresses were checked but the occupants were not located. The registered owner of the car has been spoken to by officers and inquiries into this incident are ongoing.”
