Teenager suffers serious knife wound to the chest in Norwich attack

Police were called shortly after 6.40pm yesterday (Monday, September 25) after reports that a male, aged in his teens, had been attacked with a knife in the area.

The victim was approached by two males, one of whom attacked him, before both ran off in the direction of Morley Street.

The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance with what is described as a serious injury to the chest and is receiving treatment.

One neighbour, 42, said the victim was part of a group who regularly meet in the park, and 'never caused any harm'.

'They are just regular teenagers,' she said. 'They are a nice bunch of kids and I see them almost every day. They just play out there like kids should and have a laugh.

'This poor boy, they just stabbed him.'

Another neighbour, 46, said: 'I was really shocked. It is just horrible.'

A 26-year-old, who has lived on Balfour Street all her life, said: 'This sort of thing never happens. It never used to be like this round here.

'Now it is scary because this is on your doorstep. You have to be so careful now with what you do and where you walk. It is just a really sad thing to happen. I hope they catch the people who did it.'

The boy suffered a single stab wound and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) for treatment, where he currently remains in a stable condition.

A seal was put in place at the scene whilst initial enquiries were carried out; however this has since been lifted.

Detectives are keen to speak to witnesses or anyone who has any information regarding the incident.
