Householders in Norwich are being urged to tighten up their security following a spate of burglaries.

The warning from Norfolk Police comes after 13 out of 20 burglaries in the north of the city in the last month were as a result of people leaving their doors or windows open or unlocked.

Many of the incidents have taken place in the Silver Triangle and Sewell Ward areas and officers from the Norwich North Safer Neighbourhood Team are stepping up patrols to help prevent further offences.

Insp Nik Hewitt from the Norwich North Local Policing Team said: 'It is concerning that despite issuing advice to residents about keeping their homes secure over recent weeks, the message does not seem to be getting through.

'We are increasing patrols in the area to help tackle the problem; however, I cannot emphasise enough how important it is for homeowners to protect themselves from becoming a victim of crime.'

'Please ensure that you are locking all your doors and securing your windows before you leave the house or go to bed.'
