A woman accused of murdering a man in his own home said she did not cut the victim while sitting on him to steal his wallet after he had been attacked.
The body of 67-year-old Barry Reeve was discovered by officers at a property on Corton Road, off City Road, Norwich on February 26 last year two weeks after it is said he was attacked.
Kelly Louise Barnes, 32, and Jodie Barnes, formerly Ramsbottom, 31, who are civil partners and from Bixley Close, both deny murdering Mr Reeve and are on trial at Norwich Crown Court.
During cross examination by Karim Khalil QC, prosecuting, Jodie today agreed the blood found on her trousers must come from Mr Reeve.
The jury heard she stole his wallet as he lay on the floor, bleeding, having been attacked.
Jodie, who admitted she must have been sitting on Mr Reeve’s chest, was asked by Mr Khalil, if she might have sat on his head.
Jodie said: “Are you trying to draw blood? I don’t know what you’re trying to do.”
Mr Khalil said: “Or did you sit across him and cut him?”
Jodie, who told Mr Khalil God was her judge and her witness, insisted she had not cut him.
Mr Khalil asked if, while she was stealing Mr Reeve’s wallet, whether she had given any thought at all to the assaulted elderly gentleman.
She said: “I feel absolutely bad about what’s happened to Barry.
“I didn’t do it, I didn’t injure him and if I could give my life rather than him then I would.”
The trial continues.
