A man has been charged with perverting the course of justice after another man was arrested on suspicion of committing a robbery which did not take place.

Police received a report that on Monday, Decmber 9, 2013, a man in Norwich city centre had been pulled off his bicycle, which was then stolen.

Another man was named as being responsible and was arrested and questioned.

However, further inquiries were carried out and it has been established that the robbery could not have been committed by the man arrested, and officers are satisfied that the crime did happen.

Michael Thompson, 40, of Webdell Court in Norwich, has been charged with perverting the course of justice and is due before Norwich Magistrates' Court on Friday, April 4.
