A man who was found with drugs concealed in his underpants just days after going to prison has been jailed for two years.

Wesley Williams, 39, was an inmate at Norwich Prison when his cell was searched by prison officers just two days after he had been sentenced to three months for an affray.

Norwich Crown Court heard Williams was physically searched and during that a package containing drugs, including cocaine, 'fell from his underwear'.

As well as cocaine, quantities of cannabis, cannabis resin and tablets, including diazepam, were also found.

Martin Ivory, prosecuting, said Williams, who had been the 'custodian' of the drugs had played a 'significant role'.

Williams, of George Fox Way, West Earlham, appeared for sentence having previously admitted five counts of possession with intent to supply drugs, including cocaine, on July 16 last year.

Jailing Williams for a total of two years, Judge Anthony Bate who described the defendant as having in the past had 'an entrenched addiction to class A drugs'.

Judge Bate said drugs in prison had an 'illicit value' which was far higher than on the outside.

Andrew Oliver, mitigating for Williams, who has 34 previous convictions for 80 offences, said his client had not led a blameless life but insisted the offence was out of character for the way he had been living, certainly since 2008.

He said Williams played a 'lesser role' and had been coerced into looking after the drugs.
