North Norfolk police chief’s stern warning on party-season misbehaviour

Police in north Norfolk have warned that anyone arrested for alcohol offences over the festive period can expect to be dealt with “very firmly.”
Carl Edwards (pictured), policing commander for Broadland and north Norfolk, said officers would be visiting pubs and licensed premises as the party season began to prevent crime and loutish behaviour.
He added: “We have a good relationship with local licensees who are entitled to ban anybody who behaves badly on their premises. We will be assuring them of our full support in making sure families and friends can enjoy a peaceful night out.
“Officers will also be visiting anybody arrested for drink-related crime to remind them that our catering is probably not what they would be hoping to eat on Christmas Day – so best behave.”
Police also plan to work with local businesses to cut shoplifting and will be visiting crime victims to review their security measures with them. And officers will be continuing patrols of vulnerable locations as part of Operation Relentless, aimed at tackling theft in rural areas.

It is not his place to tell people how to behave nor to deal with those arrested at any one time any differently to another. It is his job to ensure the safety of the general public and deal with crimes that are committed. The police are not there to manipulate society with their opinions on how we should behave. He should concentrate on making sure all his officers are capable of interpreting the laws they use for arrest.
