A woman has spoken of her upset after her cat was shot twice with an air gun.
Sylvia Saxby, of Suffield Road, Great Yarmouth, was stroking her pet, Whisper, when she noticed a small lump on his belly.
She took him to the vet where he was x-rayed and two air gun pellets were found inside him.
He had to be put under general anaesthetic to have the pellets removed and his treatment has cost Mrs Saxby more than £400.
Describing Whisper as a friendly cat who loves people, she said she was now worried about him going outside.
Mrs Saxby said: “Six months ago, a cat was found shot in the head.
“I have lived here for six years and I always thought it was a cat friendly area - there are a lot of families with children around here.”
Black short-haired cat, Whisper, who is two and a half years old, had to be put under general anaesthetic to have the pellets removed.
He is now on a course of painkillers. Altogether, Whisper’s treatments have cost Mrs Saxby more than £400.
She added: “Whisper is friendly and he loves people coming into the house.
“I teach music lessons at home and he sits and waits for the children to come.
“I have had him since he was a kitten and he is very affectionate. I have always had cats and dogs.”
Mrs Saxby said she is worried about letting Whisper out during the day.
“I’m wondering if the evenings might be safer. I believe Whisper was shot at last Tuesday morning.
“It’s a shock that someone tried to shoot my cat. That’s what’s worse than having to pay £400.”
