The confusion comes after a video emerged alledgedly showing a teenager being arrested by two police officers.

Twitter users have been tagging @NorfolkPolice in response to the video, which has had more than 320,000 views, hoping to catch the attention of the Norfolk Police Department in Virginia.

The British police force has said in response on Twitter: 'Hi, you've tagged Norfolk Police in the UK. I believe this video relates to an incident in America.'

The city of Norfolk in Virgina has a population of nearly 250,000 and is home to the largest navy base in the world.
