Nine youths have been cautioned after fires were set around the derelict former St Michael's Hospital in Aylsham.

The nine young people have been sent ASB intervention letters after being found inside a number of derelict buildings, including the old hospital.

Beat manager PC Greig Shepherd with the assistance of response colleagues and the Broadland Operational Partnership Team (OPT), identified the youths and issued the letters in the hope the offending would end.

Damage was caused by setting small fires at these locations during April and May.

The letters advise more formal action may be taken if the behaviour continues.

PCSO Tracey Frost, of Broadland OPT, said: 'We would advise parents to have an awareness of where their children are and what they are doing at all times.

'Entering these sites is inherently dangerous as the structures are generally unsafe and parts of the buildings could collapse at any time.

'There is also a risk from asbestos. These types of incidents and behaviour show a lack of respect for others and greatly affect the quality of life of people living within the community.'
