Southbound traffic is being diverted following a burst water main on Yarmouth Road – one of the main routes into Lowestoft.
A police spokesman said: “We were contacted just after 7am this morning to reports that the road had cracked and lifted and water was spilling out near Ormiston Denes Academy (former Denes High School).
“A second call was then received saying the water mains had burst, and a third was received from a refuse collector who reported he had parked with amber lights flashing to alert other motorists.
“Officers attended and closed the road to allow emergency repairs to take place.”
Engineers have been alerted and the northbound carriageway is open, with southbound traffic being diverted down the Ravine.
