The victim was rushed to the James Paget Hospital following the attack last night. He received treatment overnight and was discharged this morning.

Detectives are now investigating the attack, which took place inside a flat in Southgates Road.

Police said a man called at the property between 9.25pm and 9.50pm and was allowed in by the homeowner. He then made demands and threatened the victim with a knife.

Both men started to fight, resulting in the victim being stabbed several times.

The suspect, described as a white man, aged in his mid-20s and about 5ft 6 tall, left empty-handed and ran from Southgates Road towards the Barrack Estate. He was wearing a light coloured jacket and also suffered injuries during the incident.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Darren Reade, from Yarmouth CID, said: “Enquiries are at an early stage however this does appear to be a targeted attack as opposed to a random incident.

“We know from speaking with the victim that the intruder also suffered injuries to his face during the fight, possibly a broken nose. Clearly we would be keen to hear from anyone who may know someone who has sustained similar injuries since late last night.

“The knife hasn’t been recovered and it is a possibility the offender may have thrown the weapon away while running from the scene.

“I would ask local people to be aware and should they find a knife not to touch it and instead call police immediately.”

Anyone with information should call Det Sgt Reade on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
