Lewis Wildey, 19, appeared at Norwich Crown Court to be sentenced after he admitted separate assaults on a man and a woman on September 21 last year.

The court heard trouble started in the Prince of Wales pub when Wildey, of Hercules Road, off Mountfield Avenue in Hellesdon, was spotted abusing some females in the pub. A male who went over to have a word was punched by Wildey.

The pair were separated but the trouble continued outside when the defendant knocked the victim to the floor and kicked him on the ground.

Rachel Cushing, prosecuting, said the victim was kicked repeatedly by Wildey in the head.

Mrs Cushing said the attack was witnessed by several “passers by” one of whom said it was “excessively violent” and made him “feel sick”.

The court heard Wildey also hit a woman in the incident, knocking her to the floor, and causing a broken tooth.

Mrs Cushing said the male victim had a CT scan because of the fear of a potential head injury but in the end suffered more superficial injuries, including a black eye.

Wildey also appeared to be sentenced for separate offences on December 21 last year of common assault on his partner and criminal damage after previously pleading guilty to them at Norwich Magistrates Court.

Michael Clare, in mitigation, said his client deserved “substantial” credit for plea, adding that he although not helped by his ADHD he was presently drug free.

Sentencing Wildey to a total of 22 months in a young offenders institute (YOI) Judge Nicholas Coleman said it was “yet another example of violence on that road (Prince of Wales)”.

He said: “Those who kick to the head will go to prison.”

Wildey was also excluded from the Prince of Wales pub for two years.
