A police spokesman confirmed: “A 38-year-old man has been arrested following an incident at a property in Gertrude Road, Norwich, at around 12.25pm.

“Police attended the address to carry out an enquiry and the man subsequently sustained an injury to his chest – which was self-inflicted.

“Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

A mandatory referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission has been made in relation to the incident, due to the nature of the injury while in contact with police, as is standard procedure.
