At around 3.30pm, a man entered the Cash Inn shop in the Market Gates Shopping Centre and threatened a 64-year-old man with a handgun and a hammer.

The man then made off from the store with a significant amount of cash.

The 64-year-old victim was taken to the James Paget Hospital with a head injury, which is not believed to be life threatening. The injury was caused by a single blow to the head with a hammer.

The man is described as white, 5ft 9 inches tall, with short brown hair wearing a long black coat and carrying a briefcase.

He entered the store through the front door, and exited the same way, heading towards the taxi rank.

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to interview in connection with the incident.

Any witnesses are asked to contact DS Chris Burgess at Great Yarmouth CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
