A man who chased after and tackled two armed burglars after they burst into his home has been commended for his bravery.
Andrejs Hincenbergs, 27, and Agnes Koskins, 26, broke into a flat in Nene Quay, Wisbech, on the night of October 16, startling the occupant, a 33-year-old woman and her two young children.
They ran off but the woman's 45-year-old husband gave chase. He caught up with them nearby but was threatened by Hincenbergs who had a knife. The victim managed to get the knife off the burglar and was assisted by a member of the public to detain him.
He then chased after Koskins who also threatened him with two parts of a snooker cue. However the man again tackled the burglar and detained him until police arrived.
Hincenbergs and Koskins, both of Opportune Road, Wisbech, admitted aggravated burglary. Hincenbergs also admitted possessing an offensive weapon. Both were jailed for six years.
The victim was awarded £750 by the court for his bravery.
Det Con Jon Edwards, of Cambridgeshire police, said: 'The victim showed tremendous bravery in going after the pair and then tackling them, despite the fact both had weapons.
'His actions meant we were swiftly able to bring these men to justice. I'd also like to thank the other member of the public who assisted him detaining Hincenbergs.'
