Two fancy-dress Oompa Loompas were among a group which assaulted a man on Norwich's Prince of Wales Road.
The pair – dressed as the characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with painted orange faces, dyed green hair and hooped tops – were involved in the attack at about 3.20am on Thursday morning.
The 28-year-old male victim suffered a cut to his right eye, two black eyes, a small cut to the nose and a cut lip in the assault.
He had just come out of a kebab house next to Tesco when he was approached by a group of three men and a woman, who had dark hair and a dress split at the side.
One of the men in the group pushed the victim to the floor. As he got up, he was then hit on the head, fell to the floor and was hit again.
Contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
