Ms McAuley was beaten to death by Joe Storey in January, and for the past month this newspaper has been campaigning to raise £10,000 for Leeway in her memory. On Saturday, a collection was held outside the ground of Lowestoft Town ahead of the club's match against Harlow Town, with Ms McAuley's brother Rory among the ranks at the Trawlerboys.

Fans attending the game put more than £300 into collection buckets on the day, with further donations from the players expected to bring that figure beyond £500.

Mr McAuley said: 'The club has been incredibly supportive throughout everything that has happened and this really means a lot to us as a family. They held a minute of applause after she died and have been really welcoming to my nephews.

'Kerri was an incredibly giving person herself, so it means so much to see people donating so much - particularly at this time of year. I know if she was still with us and this had happened to somebody else she would've been 100pc behind it.'
