A Norfolk-based Liverpool fan, who ran on to the pitch at Carrow Road before making lewd gestures at Norwich City supporters, faces a ban from all football grounds.

James Chew broke past stewards to join in celebrations with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan’s third goal in the 82nd minute of the Reds’ 3-0 win on April 28.

After hugging the striker and blowing a kiss, Chew dropped to his knees in mock-worship at Suarez’s feet, then turned to the Barclay stand to make gestures in response to Norwich fans’ booing.

As he was led away by police officers, Chew, of Tunstead Road, Hoveton, waved to Liverpool fans before turning to pull down his trousers and appearing to bare his backside to photographers.

Chew, 31, appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty to one charge of going on to the playing area, under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, and one charge of aggravating or threatening behaviour.

The case was adjourned until June 6, pending the outcome of a Football Banning Order hearing, the outcome of which could see Chew banned from all football grounds in the UK.

His lawyer, Ryan Creek, confirmed that Chew would be contesting the order.

The incident, after Suarez’s spectacular 45-yard lob of Canaries goalkeeper John Ruddy, sparked an internal investigation at Norwich City into how Chew was able to get on to the pitch.

Chief executive David McNally told fans after the match that a review of the club’s procedures would be undertaken, though no one at the club could be reached for comment yesterday.

Chew was released on bail on the condition he does not enter any UK football ground.
