A candidate suspended by the Liberal Democrats after being charged with fraud is still standing for the party at a by-election on Thursday - because his suspension came too late.
Glenn Burrows, of Princes Street in North Walsham, was charged in June with one count of obtaining services dishonestly, under the Fraud Act, and one count of acquiring criminal property.
He has been bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on August 4.
The allegations relate to a company selling set-top boxes for television sets.
Despite being suspended by the Lib Dems on Tuesday - when the local party became aware of the charges - the 32-year-old is still one of the Lib Dems’ two candidates at Thursday’s by-election for North Walsham Town Council’s West Ward.
The cut-off point for withdrawing candidates was June 23, meaning the party could not remove Mr Burrows as one of their candidates on the ballot paper.
Leader of the party at North Norfolk District Council Sarah Butikofer confirmed Mr Burrows had been suspended from the local party but was still on the ballot paper at point of nomination.
The other by-election candidates are Elaine Addison (Labour), Rob Scammell (Liberal Democrat) and Andy Davidson (Independent).
