An 86-year-old man has been warned he faces jail after he was convicted of a string of historical sexual offences against three girls.

Ivan West, of Cley, Holt, was convicted of nine offences of indecent assault and one of gross indecency dating back to 1973, but cleared of a rape charge on a girl under 16 by a Norwich Crown Court jury.

The jury took just under two and half hours to reach verdicts in the case.

West had denied all the charges.

Judge Stephen Holt adjourned sentence for reports until May 25 and granted bail to West as an 'act of compassion' so he could get his affairs in order, although warned him that he faced custody.

His barrister, Jude Durr said it would greatly assist West to have time to organise his affairs: 'He understands that a custodial sentence is the inevitable consequence.'
