The woman, who was in her 60s, died in the early hours of Tuesday.

She was found at a large detached house in California Avenue and a post mortem was carried out yesterday (Wednesday).

Police said today that as a result of the inconclusive results they are still treating her death as unexplained and investigations will continue.

Neighbours in the quiet residential street, which sits just a stone’s throw from the beach, said they were shocked and saddened by the news, after waking on Tuesday to find several police cars and vans parked outside their homes.

Bernard Knighton, 74, said he knew the woman to say hello to.

“It’s come as a shock because it’s a very quiet neighbourhood, you don’t get it round here,” he added.

“It’s sad news for the road, it’s always sad when people around you pass away.”

Mr Knighton said police vehicles had been in the road from around 8.30am on Tuesday and remained on scene throughout the night.

Yesterday morning a large police van was still parked outside the house and a PCSO was guarding the property.
