About 300 homes in the Holt area were without telephone services overnight after underground cables in the town were cut, but not stolen.

The attempted theft happened between 8.30pm on Tuesday July 8 and 11.30am the following day when the offenders gained access through an access cover on Station Road at the junction with Kerridge Way and further up the road outside the Railway Tavern Pub.

The telephone service was affected while the problem was fixed.

PC Paul Roach said officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a white van parked in the area around the time of the offence.

Contact Mr Roach at Holt police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
