A 25-year-old woman with a “horrendous” record of more than 100 convictions has been jailed after admitting her third house burglary.

Kellie-Anne Carroll broke into a house in Great Yarmouth and stole items, including a laptop and charger.

The burglary at a home on Victoria Road, Yarmouth, on February 14 this year was admitted by Carroll, who appeared at Norwich Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced.

As a three-strike burglar, Carroll, of Anchor Court, Yarmouth, could have been jailed for a minimum of three years unless exceptional circumstances applied, but Judge Nicholas Coleman imposed a two-year term after giving the defendant credit for her plea and hearing how her two young children were having to be looked after by her ill father.

Sentencing Carroll, who also asked for another theft matter to be taken into consideration, to two years in prison, Judge Coleman said she had an “ingrained pattern of offending” which was “fuelled” by her “chaotic lifestyle” which, until addressed, would mean she would be a risk to the public.

Ian James, mitigating, said although Carroll had a “horrendous” criminal record she had only committed three burglaries with the previous two having taken place some time ago, in 2006 and 2007.

Appearing alongside Carroll in the dock was Sebastian Barrows, 32, of Clarendon Close, Yarmouth. He admitted handling stolen goods in relation to the burglary Carroll was convicted of and also a separate matter of theft and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Jonathan Morgans, for Barrows, who also asked for two other matters to be taken into consideration, said he “hugely regrets” these offences and was determined not to make the same mistakes in future.

He was sentenced to a total of 16 months.
