Councillor Patrick Rochford of the Gaywood North Bank ward said: 'It's a quiet community, there hasn't been that much trouble in the past.

'Our thoughts are with their families and friends. It's something that we are wanting to find out more about as it comes more into the public.

'You don't really expect to find out about this sort of crime in your area. It's a nice place to live, we don't really have that much crime.'

Councillor Mark Shorting of the same ward said: 'The only problem we have in the area is speeding.

'It's a really close, good community, not in each other's pockets, but they always say hello.

'I think it's going to be a shock to the whole community - it's a shock to me.'

Norfolk Special Constabulary assisted King's Lynn police. A post on Twitter by NSC said: 'We will be providing additional policing resources to reassure the local community and protect the scene.'
