A sex offender and former company director in Norwich has pleaded guilty to 12 counts of making or possessing indecent images of children.

Peter Jones, 51, from Pound Road, North Walsham, was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register nine years ago, after being sent to jail for 12 months for similar offences.

The former director at Heritage Legal and Financial Services in Hellesdon Park Road, Norwich, appeared before Norwich magistrates yesterday, and was committed to the crown court for sentencing.

Prosecutor Denis King said six of the charges Jones pleaded guilty to related to images found on his work computer, while another six were taken from his personal computer at his home address. Jones also admitted two other counts of possession of extreme pornographic images portraying sex with animals.

Mr King said Jones was a director of Heritage Legal and Financial Services when the offences came to light in December last year. He said: “Police removed a computer from his work address containing 24 deleted indecent images of children containing six at level 1, one at level 2, seven at level 3 and 10 at level 4, where level 5 is the most serious. They also found seven deleted images of an extreme pornographic nature.

“Jones was arrested on March 26 and taken to Aylsham police centre where he denied making the images. He suggested somebody from the company may have planted the material on his computer.

“A search at his home address was then carried out and 23 deleted indecent images of children were found including 16 at level 1, three at level 2 and four at level 4, together with two deleted images of an extreme pornographic nature. He was charged on July 5.”

The court was told that in March 2003 Jones was convicted of a number of similar offences and was jailed for 12 months, and placed on the Sex Offender’s Register for 10 years, until April 2013.

For Jones, Silas Reid said: “Mr Jones has a long-standing addiction to pornography and child pornography. Matters have been put in place to help him with this addiction.”

Jones was released on conditional bail and will be sentenced at a later date at Norwich crown court.
