A former Norfolk police officer is alleged to have “thoroughly corrupted” a young girl who he sexually abused and attempted to rape, a court heard.

John Clack, 53, from Earlham Court, Norwich, is said to have shown the girl porn videos and DVDs and is also alleged to have incited a boy, who was aged between eight and 10, to engage in sexual behaviour with the girl, Norwich Crown Court heard.

The offences are alleged to date back some years with the earliest charges dating back to 1997, but the offences only recently came to light when the girl came forward to make a complaint.

Clack has denied attempting to rape the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and denies 13 other charges including seven counts of indecent assault on the girl and a charge of inciting a boy, aged eight to 10, to engage in sexual activity.

Felicity Gerry, prosecuting, in her opening speech to the jury said that Clack, a former police officer with Norfolk Constabulary, had “thoroughly corrupted” the girl.

“He would also show her porn videos or DVDs,” she added.

She said that the girl claimed that Clack had also encouraged sexual behaviour to take place between her and a young boy, while he watched.

She said that in 2004 the girl had made an initial complaint, but it was not until September last year that matters were pursued.

“She contacted the police again to complain about what he had done to her when she was younger.”

Ms Gerry added that people delay making complaints “for all sorts of reasons”.

She said that when Clack was arrested he claimed the girl had made up all the allegations.

The trial continues.
