Fines warning for North Walsham ‘rat-run’ drivers

13:57 15 April 2013

“Rat-run” drivers who ignore access-only signs in an area of North Walsham are being warned they could face a £30 fine.

Officers from the local safer neighbourhood team will be conducting regular high-visibility patrols along Station Road following complaints that drivers are using the road as a short-cut.

Police have received complaints about motorists using the road between Millfield Road and Norwich Road, near the Victory Swim and Fitness Centre, flouting the access only signs.

Drivers, other than local buses, should only use this section of road to access the leisure centre or local houses. Officers said they would be carrying out regular enforcement patrols and handing out fixed-penalty notices to offenders.

  • Would not the most sensible answer be, to make that piece of station road one way and the millfield road also one way in the opposite direction ?. At present all law abiding drivers using Millfield Road have to contend with cars parked on both sides of the road and two way traffic trying their best to get through, of course plenty of people use the "non legal" route its so much easier to navigate. And a friendly piece of advice to those officers who will be conducting the high visibility patrols, be warned, the roads there do have kerbs, so be very carefull in case you trip up one.
