Eleven people were arrested and more than 20 others issued with notices to leave Norwich’s nightclub area after a high-profile crackdown on violence and anti-social behaviour on the city’s streets.

Police in Norwich last night carried out the latest in their Operation Impact initiatives, which aimed to tackle alcohol-fuelled crime and disorder in areas such as Prince of Wales Road and Riverside.

Officers set up a ‘beat base’ in the former Liquid nightclub in Prince of Wales Road and spent the night taking action against alcohol-fuelled offending, including drunkenness, assault, drink-driving and drugs offences

Police said the crowds were generally jovial in the earlier part of the evening, but that there were a flurry of arrests after 2am, mainly for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

There were also arrests for criminal damage and for refusing to leave the area when requested, with police saying they were particularly busy between 3am and 4am.

In total, police made 11 arrests and issued 21 direction to leave notices - known as section 27 orders - in what police described as “a rather busy night”.

The night of action - one of a number of such crackdowns in recent years - was supported by club and bar owners.
