A con man stole £500 from an elderly woman during a distraction burglary in Caister-on-Sea.

The burglary happened between 11.30am and 11.45am on Monday when a man cold called at a property in Fairway and told the victim a tree in her back garden needed cutting as a new fence was being put up around the golf course which backs onto her property.

The victim agreed to pay £60 for the work.

The man told the victim to wait in the garden until his colleague arrived and, during that time, entered the property and stole cash from the victim’s handbag.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed a man acting suspiciously in the area around the times stated.

To help, contact Great Yarmouth CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
