A north Norfolk seafood producer could be on the brink of moving its long-established base to a vacant building on the edge of Cromer.

Jonas Seafoods, of Mill Lane, East Runton, has been given planning permission from North Norfolk District Council to change the use of the former Beerseller outlet at Stone Hill Way, Holt Road from a warehouse to a general industrial building.

The building, which is owned by Isabel Cator from Somerleyton Hall, near Lowestoft, has been vacant since the drinks wholesaler Beerseller closed in 2009.

No-one from Jonas wanted to comment about plans for the building, as negotiations were ongoing.

But the change of use will raise hopes that Jonas is set to expand its operation to take up some of the capacity lost when Cromer Crab Company on Holt Road closed in September.

The planning application was decided by NNDC officers because it did not prompt any objections and was felt to conform with its policy.
