The number of staff working in Norfolk’s prisons has dropped by 26 in three years.
At HMP Norwich on Knox Road, there are 19 fewer staff than in 2009, as the prison service deals with budget cuts.
Figures released in Parliament on Monday show the prison was employing 192 people this August, down from 211 in August 2010.
Staff numbers at HMP Wayland, near Thetford, have fallen by seven over the same time and now stand at 207.
HMP Blundeston, near Lowestoft, has seen the largest drop in staff numbers of the region’s prisons with 20 fewer staff members than three years ago – down to 130 from 150 in August 2010.
A driver had to be rescued from a river in Thetford after the Ford Focus he was travelling in came off the road.
