Police are warning the public to be vigilant following reports of fake £20 notes circulating in Cromer yesterday.

PC Peter Davison, community engagement officer with North Norfolk police, said: “Fake notes can be hard to spot; check the feel of the paper, the raised print, metallic thread and watermark; retailers should use UV detector lights and detector pens where available.”

It is a criminal offence to hold onto or pass on counterfeit notes. Notes should not be allowed to go back into circulation, they should be retained and the police contacted on 101 (always dial 999 in an emergency).
