A man remains in hospital with a 'serious head injury' after being hurt yesterday (Saturday) during a public order incident in North Walsham.

Police officers from Norfolk Constabulary were called to Vicarage Street, near to the junction of Mitre Tavern Yard, shortly before 2am following reports of a disturbance in the road.

The 43-year-old man was taken to the Norfolk and Norfolk University Hospital (N&N) and was later transferred to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge to receive specialist neurological treatment.

A 44-year-old man also sustained an injury to his arm and was treated at the N&N.

The area was sealed off and diversion routes put in place by police for the duration of Saturday morning while CID carried out their enquiries.

Paul Morse, county councillor for North Walsham East, said he had been 'horrified' to hear about the incident.

'North Walsham, like any other market town, has its share of anti-social behaviour,' he said.

'But like most of Norfolk we are a low crime town.'

A 46-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the incident and has been questioned at Aylsham Police Investigation Centre.
