A picture of a Norwich man who disappeared in Thailand almost five years ago has helped generate “very encouraging” new lines of inquiry after it was screened to millions of TV viewers on BBC’s Crimewatch.
The last known sightings of Daniel Hall was at a Full Moon Party in 2008 on Koh Pha-Ngan on Sunday, February 24 and at around noon on Monday, February 25 at an after-party at a bar known as the Back Yard Bar.
Detectives from Norfolk and Suffolk’s Major Investigation Team (MIT) are hoping for fresh information on the mysterious disappearance of Mr Hall, who was 35 at the time, and issued a new appeal on the prime-time crime show on Thursday.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Guy, who appeared on the show, has welcomed the positive feedback following the Crimewatch appeal, particularly in relation to the picture and those people in it.
The image shows Mr Hall on the side and two men in the centre, one being a topless man with a goatee beard and shaved head. Officers would like to speak to these two men seen looking towards Mr Hall in the photograph as they may be potential witnesses to his movements. They are thought to be British nationals.
DCI Guy said: “So far we have received 25 contacts regarding Daniel’s disappearance and eight names have been given by callers.
“This is very encouraging and I hope these new lines of inquiry help move the case forward.”
Mr Hall had a history degree from Birmingham University but had been working in Norwich as a labourer before travelling to Thailand for an extended backpacking holiday. He had never been reported missing before and had no reason to vanish.
He arrived in Thailand at the end of January 2008 and initially stayed with a friend in Bangkok. He then went to stay at Lam Son bungalows, on Hat Yao Beach on Koh Pha-Ngan on February 16, 2008.
Here he met up with a Spanish friend.
His belongings were still at the bungalows and no money has been withdrawn from his bank account since February 22, 2008.
Terrorism returned to the streets of London today as two suspected Muslim fanatics butchered a man in broad daylight in the name of “Allah”.
