A couple suffered facial injuries after they were assaulted in Bowthorpe at the weekend.

The man and woman were in their silver Vauxhall Vectra driving along Clover Hill Road at around 12.30am on Sunday, February 10, when they were stopped at the junction of Humbleyard and Beloe Avenue by two men in the road. A further two men were on the pavement.

One of the men threatened the man through the window and another smashed a bottle on the car. The woman got out of the car and was assaulted by the first man, and then the man got out and was also assaulted.

The men then ran off in opposite directions.

One of the men is described as white, in his early 20s, of stocky build with short dark hair and wearing a checked shirt, the second man was white, in his mid 20s, 5ft 10ins, of muscular build with short dark hair and wearing a dark or black t-shirt and the third is 5ft 9ins, of small build with fair hair in a semi-spiky style and wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up and a scarf.

PC Chris Alexander, investigating officer said: “This was an isolated incident and we believe a case of mistaken identity, as the men appeared to think that the car was a taxi. The couple were threatened because the “taxi” was late, and then subjected to a nasty assault which has left them very shaken.”
