An injured man caused havoc for police after fleeing from emergency services before crashing his car into a lake.
The man, from the Mundford area, evaded officers for more than two hours during the hunt on Sunday night.
A Norfolk Police spokesman said fears for the man’s safety were raised after he escaped from an ambulance at his home, having called 999 at around 7.50pm.
That sparked a police manhunt, with at least four police vehicles and the search helicopter being called into action.
The car was located in Lynford at 9.40pm but the man refused to stop for officers. Seven minutes later, he crashed into Lynford Lakes, just north of Lynford Hall.
He was able to exit the vehicle on his own and officers retrieved him from the water, according to the spokesman.
Paramedics were also sent to the scene, where they treated the man for minor injuries before taking him to West Suffolk Hospital.
Residents reported hearing the helicopter overhead and seeing police searching frantically for the man, including in Ashburton Road and near Lynford Hall.
Police did not arrest the man but he was detained under the mental health act. The car was retrieved.
Fire crews were also called to the scene to help extricate the car, but were stood down.
