The fight happened at about 6pm on Thursday in the multi use games area at the King George V playing field.

A total of ten police officers, including a dog unit, were called out and the youths dispersed and fled the scene.

A spokesman for Norfolk police said no offences had yet been recorded and no arrests were made, although an investigation is ongoing.

The spokesman said it had been reported the fight may have been between pupils at Caister and Great Yarmouth high schools.

Patrick Hacon, treasurer and trustee of the playing field of the Caister Playing Field Management Committee, said he had heard there were about 100 young people at the fight.

He added the incident could lead to the idea of the playing field being “sealed up” at night times to prevent further incidents.

However he said it would mean an extra cost to the trust to employ someone to lock up and open the playing field, which is an important link through the village.
