The daughter of one of Norfolk’s most remarkable men has spoken of her anger after a collection of her father’s antique weaponry was stolen.

Burglars stole the ornamental muskets, pistols and rifles from Reymerston Hall, home of the late Wing Commander Ken Wallis, at some point between July 1 and 7.

The thieves cut through a hedge to access the property, near Dereham, smashed through doors and cut open padlocks, said Wing Cmdr Wallis’ eldest daughter Vicky Wallis.

The theft comes less than a year after Wing Cmdr Wallis’ death. The former Wellington bomber pilot, who was a key figure in the post-war development of the autogyro, died last September aged 97.

He was best known for flying the autogyro as Sean Connery’s stunt double in the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice, and for setting 34 world records for speed, circuit and altitude feats between 1968 and 2002.

His eldest daughter Vicky said the stolen items, which were taken from her father’s office and safe, had been in the family for more than 70 years.

She said: “Everything was under lock and key - every door that was locked was smashed, every padlock bolted.

“If anyone has seen anything or saw any suspicious activity in the days leading up to it, then please call the police. They cut through the hedge at the junction of The Street and Mile Road and I think things were prepared.”

Of the burglary, Ms Wallis said: “I was angry more than anything.”

It is not known how much the ornamental weaponry was worth but about a dozen items were stolen in total.

A Norfolk police spokesman said the theft happened between 9am on July 1 and 6.15pm on July 7.

Any witnesses are asked to call DC Scott Malcolmson at Thetford on 101.
