A man who claims he was sexually assaulted by a civilian fitness instructor at a Suffolk airbase told police he felt shocked and couldn’t believe what was happening during the alleged incident, a court has heard.

During a recorded interview the alleged victim claimed that John Wales had measured his chest and biceps during an assessment at RAF Lakenheath and then asked him to pull down the compression shorts he was wearing so he could measure his thighs.

He claimed that Wales had touched him sexually before standing up and kissing him on the mouth.

The alleged victim said he had put his hand on Wales’ shoulder to indicate he wanted him to stop and also told him to stop.

He said that afterwards he had felt shocked and couldn’t believe what had happened.

“I didn’t want it to happen,” he said.

“I shouldn’t have to worry about being violated,” he added.

Wales, 52, of Church Lane, Ely, has denied sexual assault.

A jury at Ipswich Crown Court has heard that after his arrest Wales claimed that what took place was “entirely consensual”.

The trial continues.
