A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape following an incident in Cromer.

And Norfolk Police said that, as a result of new evidence, they were exploring the possibility of links between this and matters of public disorder in Cromer over the weekend.

A police spokesman said: 'A man in his 30s was arrested by colleagues in Essex on the morning of Monday, August 21 and will be questioned in due course. 'It follows an incident on Friday night, August 18, at about 11.30pm after a woman in her late teens reported being raped at a bus stop on Cadogan Road by two men.'

There were several incidents of public disorder in the town over the weekend, but police have denied that Cromer was on 'lock down'.

Deputy chief constable Nick Dean insisted that Cromer was a 'safe town' and the weekend was an 'isolated incident'.
